Super Smash Bros. Brawl takes a different approach on fighting games. Every character usually starts out at 0%. Any attack that hits the opponent deals damage and knockback depending on the attack. As the percentage gets higher, characters suffer higher knockback. The goal of the game is to take the stocks off an opponent. Taking a stock occurs when a powerful attack that hits the opponent has enough knocknack to send them outside of a stage's boundaries, or characters fall to the pit at the bottom of most stages.
And those are the basics. This guide will explain more about the physics and rules of this game when we come to them.
