V-Reversal

A strike V-Reversal that knocks the opponent down on hit.

V-Skill 1

Alex's V-Skill is Overhaul, which causes his next attack to be a Hard Hit. Hard hits cause your attacks to have an addition 5 plus frames, as opposed to the normal +2 of a counter hit, though the damage and stun increase is the same (Hard Hit does not stack with counter hit). He builds a small amount of V-Gauge on activation, and can force crush counters to build more, which is its primary advantage over VS2. If the opponent blocks an attack he loses the bonus, note that he will not lose the buff if he is counter hit out of a move before connecting. Due to a 50 frame total duration combined with the formerly mention drawback it is difficult to use outside stun combos or at full screen, though he can sacrifice oki to safely activate the buff when cancelled into from EX Elbow, and EX Flash Chop. He can also cancel from an EX stampede and still get okay okizeme. If he has the opponent in the corner, all of these setups lead to pressure. Note that when Alex gets a crush counter from this, it is NOT affected by the Season 3 Crush Counter changes that have them scale by two hits; it only counts as 1, allowing him to do big damage. While not as useful as some other V-Skills, Alex does get stuns fairly often. This helps him get the most out of them, making his neutral that much scarier when he does manage to use it outside of stun situations.

V-Skill 2

Overchain is another buff V-Skill that allows Alex to cancel two special moves into each other. The animation is 50 frames like VS1 and can be cancelled into from the same moves, though activation does not build any V-Gauge. Cancelling one special move into another however does build V-Gauge, even more so if the move you cancelled into connects on hit or block. The only special move that you can't cancel into or out of is Power Bomb. If you land a special on hit or block, then you lose the buff, so you might as well use it whenever you land a special, the only exception is Headbutt as you will lose the buff on whiff as well. It's application is better in most cases than VS1, as you can throw out unsafe specials and make them safe by simply using a safe one after. If you use an EX move, then you can only cancel into another EX move, so make sure you spend your meter wisely, as the damage you get from it is great but they're all incredibly unsafe on block apart from EX Stomp, which is +2 but leaves you in range to be thrown.

V-Trigger 1

Alex's VT1, Rage Shift, is a two bar V-Trigger that gives Alex access to a 1f parry and a new special move, Sledgehammer. By pressing HP+HK Alex will begin charging Sledgehammer. When Alex is hit by any non throw attack, high or low, he parries it quickly recovering after. By tapping HP+HK after the first parried attack he can parry multiple attacks one after another, or by continuing to hold it Alex will cancel into Sledgehammer. As of the Definitive Update he can now cancel a successful Sledgehammer Parry into any special or super, meaning he can blow through pesky multi hit moves with CA or EX moves and get specific punishes on moves or from ranges he wouldn't have before. Note that after a successful parry, Alex builds back a small amount of V-Gauge. Alex can also cancel any of his normals into Sledgehammer; MP, HP, 6HP, HK, and 2HP all combo into it while 2MP, MK, 2MK combo on counter hit, even from max range. On hit Sledgehammer goes through the opponent and can be canceled into Back Drop for damage at the cost of oki, MP Flash Chop to be +3 next to the opponent forcing them to guess between MP and Power Bomb. The situation is similar with meter, you can cancel into EX Back Drop for damage while being +4 directly next to the opponent after a dash or EX Flash Chop for huge advantage (+21 if they quick rise, +26 if they back rise). If Sledgehammer is fully charged, on block it will guard break which can be canceled into Back Drop for a small amount of damage, and on hit it will leave you at +11 allowing Alex to link into Lariat (6HP) for bigger damage. A non-charged version on block is -12 however (despite what the in-game display says) and easily punishable, once Alex starts charging Sledgehammer there is no way to cancel it forcing the Alex player to guess between the opponent trying to jump out of its way or them continuing to block making Sledgehammer a high risk high reward tool when used raw in neutral. Because of its big damage potential and defense gain this is the best V-Trigger for making strong comebacks and shutting down offense heavy characters.

V-Trigger 2

Alex's VT2 is a two bar V-Trigger called Rage Boost, which gives Alex access to two new special moves. By pressing HP+HK again Alex performs a flying DDT, causing Alex to jump forward and grab the opponent. The range is a bit over half screen but it only works on standing opponents, whiffing if they are crouching or airborne. He can cancel into this from all versions of Flash Chop, LP and EX Slash Elbow, every normal except 2HP, 2HK and 2LK on hit for a combo making his 2MK and 2MP especially much scarier in neutral. On hit it leaves the opponent close enough to hit with a meaty Lariat afterwards, however due to distance only the slower LP Power Bomb will reach. A DDT on activation takes about 1/6 of the V-Gauge, and on hit takes another 1/6 meaning you can land at most 3 DDTs. The other special it gives Alex access to it Choke Sleeper, which is a grab done after any normal except 6MP or Flash Chop as well as the LP and EX versions of Slash Elbow by pressing 2HP+HK, but beware as it will whiff from the absolute max range on every normal except LK. Alex spins the opponent around choking them causing them to fall to the ground, leaving Alex in prime position for oki along with causing a decent amount of damage and stun. As with DDT this takes 1/3 the V-Gauge on activation, meaning in total you get 3 V-Trigger specials before the gauge runs out. On hit Choke Sleeper leaves Alex closer than DDT and in prime range to run his okizeme. As neither DDT or Choke Sleeper can be back risen the additional oki and scarier confirms make this the preferred V-Trigger against characters who play a more patient game against Alex.
