Hyo, the original evil mastermind in Rival Schools: United by Fate, adopted son of Raizo and twin brother to Kyosuke, returns once again during the climax of Project Justice. Having been redeemed at the end of Rival Schools: United by Fate, convinced by Kyosuke that there were more effective ways to change the world for the better, Hyo makes a surprise appearance in Project Justice as the true antagonist; surpassing Kurow. In fact, it is revealed that the spirit of Hyo's' late father, Mugen, had inhabited his sword; eventually transforming him into Demon Hyo. He briefly regains control of his body during the final confrontation with his brother, only to demand Kyosuke and Batsu to kill him in honor of the Imawana family. His final request in the hopes of sacrificing himself to bring peace to his country; his and Mugens original plan finally coming full circle at the expense of his life. Kyosuke reluctantly grants him his final wish, much to his emotional devastation. Hideo is shown carrying Hyo's body from the wreckage of the now destroyed Justice High, bringing Hyo's legacy in the Rival Schools timeline to a close.



Hyo, surprisingly, surpasses Demon Hyo in terms of performance. Boasting some of the most effective long-range tools in the game, Hyo excels wonderfully in the mid-range where most of the Project Justice casts' kits emphasize up-close rushdown play, with a few sparse zoning tools sparingly peppered into the roster. Delayable textbook combos make Hyo a great character for simple, effective mixups. His kit also contains fantastic actions out of a successful Tardy Cancel, such as 6Lp.png with its simple and damaging follow-ups, as well as Iai Giri, its special move counterpart with unique follow-ups all to its own.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Long reaching normals lets him excel in the mid-range; a rarity in Project Justice.
  • Simple, effective tools out of long-distance Tardy Counters.
    • Particularly 6Lp.png, Iai Giri, and their Follow-Ups.
  • Long, delayable textbook combos add additional mixup potential to closing the gap at mid-range.
  • While his reach is fantastic, he is lacking long-range options.
    • Characters with effective long-range stalling tools and high-damage combo routes in the close-range such as Momo, Natsu, and Roberto, may give him a hard time.
