Weapon of Choice

Here is a diagram of what the controls available to you in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 are. The controller portion has been labeled as if you are on the left side of the screen facing your opponent on the right side. If you switch sides and are on the right, Towards becomes Back, Offensive Crouch becomes Defensive Crouch, etc. The buttons remain the same.

There may definitely be some players who will adjust the buttons differently so the two Assist buttons are on the right two buttons, for a more MvC2 feel. But the default configuration is shown above, and the majority of players will more than likely use this configuration.

The four main attack buttons will be the four main face buttons of your controller. Light Attack will be 'X' on the XBox 360 and '□' on the PlayStation 3. Medium Attack will be 'Y' on the XBox 360 and 'Δ' on the PlayStation 3. Hard Attack will be 'B' on the XBox 360 and 'O' on the PlayStation 3. Special will be 'A' on XBox 360 and 'X' on the PlayStation 3. Assist 1 will be 'LB' on the XBox 360 and 'L1' on the PlayStation 3. Assist 2 will be 'RB' on the XBox 360 and 'R1' on the PlayStation 3.

Controller Motion Terminology

Also, there are some motions for the controller that will be referred to by the common nicknames and abbreviations most fighting game players use nowadays. Here's a listing of the ones that may be most commonly used in this guide:

Quarter Circle Forward

QCF - Qcf.png (Down, Down/Towards, Towards)

Quarter Circle Back

QCB - Qcb.png (Down, Down/Back, Back)

Dragon Punch

DP - Dp.png (Towards, Down, Down/Towards)

Reverse Dragon Punch

RDP - Rdp.png (Back, Down, Down/Back)

Half Circle Forward

HCF - Hcf.png (Back, Down/Back, Down, Down/Towards, Towards)

Half Circle Back

HCB - Hcb.png (Towards, Down/Towards, Down, Down/Back, Back)

360 Motion

360 - 360.png (Rotate the joystick in a full circle in any direction)
