Dead or Alive 5 Last Round/Momiji/Introduction

From SuperCombo Wiki

Introduction

Momiji is the apprentice of Ryu Hayabusa and a Dragon Shrine Maiden. She was first introduced in the Ninja Gaiden series, with her first Dead or Alive appearance being Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate and has since then been present in every DOA game. Momiji fights using the Hayabusa style aiki-jūjutsu.

Momiji is a beginner friendly space control character who navigates neutral with her amazing movement and fast far reaching buttons. She features simple execution and an equally simple gameplan focused on keeping the opponent out to then punish whiffs with her amazing whiff punishing tools. All of this combined with her command jumps allows her to easily control the pace of the game.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Amazing keepout: Momiji controls the midrange with her amazing pokes, such as 5H+K and 4K, and can easily create or close the distance with her good movement and command jumps that avoid lows and even some mids.
  • Whiff punishes: Momiji is best known for her 66P, which is a fast and very far reaching safe on block mid. This move is a beast when it comes to punishing whiffs and is relatively safe to throw out in neutral to keep the opponent in check.
  • Safety: Most of Momiji's best pokes are usually safe on block, meaning she doesn't have to take risks if she doesn't want to.
  • Low damage: Momiji deals low damage on average due to the nature of her gameplan. While it's not impossible for her to do 100+ damage, most of the times you will be starting your combos with 66PP, which instantly launches the opponent, offering only a short juggle.
  • Weak mixups: Though she does have a few lows that let her setup good strike/throw situations, Momiji doesn't have any offensive hold and only generic throws. While she does have unique command jump mixups, these are very susceptible to sidestepping, meaning she has to rely on the very basics to open her opponents up.
  • Linear: Because of her simplicity, Momiji is very linear. This makes it easier for experienced players to adapt and play around her strengths.
